Twitter is having a big day today. You might even call it mainstream. Widely-read tech columnist David Pogue has a helpful Twitter? It’s What You Make It article in the New York Times. And a global Twestival is taking place with tweet-ups (Tweet. Meet. Give.) in over 175 cities to raise money for charity:water. This is a great idea. And exactly the kind of thing Twitter, an instant and intimate global communications channel, should be used for.

Meanwhile I’ve been in London this week doing some serious museum and theatre going and thinking about things other than… Twitter. Although I have resorted to the occasional tweet to register a few comments. I thought it would be fun to string a few of these together to see if they add up to any sort of meaningful commentary. I doubt they do but at least they help me remember the high points of my trip.

Oh, and on a side note, today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.

Saw the uniform jacket worn by Admiral Nelson when he was felled at the (naval) battle of Trafalgar—with the bullet hole clearly visible on the left-hand shoulder. He died aboard ship several hours later, after being informed that England had won the battle. His last words: “Thank god I have done my duty.” – in an email to my kids
